The chronicles of Tardi

Half a billion years of not selling. Every chapter is true, except the parts about crypto. Those are also true.

Chapter 1 · ~500 million years ago

Born in a puddle

Before trees, before fish with legs, before anyone had a portfolio, there was a puddle. In it, something half a millimetre long, eight stubby legs, no bones, a little mouth like a tube. It didn't have a plan. It had a talent: it would not die.

Chapter 2 · The five extinctions

Everyone else left

Ice ages. Volcanoes that burned for a million years. The rock from space that ended the dinosaurs. Five times, most of life on Earth was wiped out. Five times, when the dust settled, a tiny bear crawled out of the moss and said gm.

Chapter 3 · The cold

Thirty years in the ice

In 1983, scientists scooped up frozen moss in Antarctica and kept it in a freezer. In 2014 they thawed it. Two water bears woke up, had a snack, and one of them laid eggs. Neither checked the chart.

Chapter 4 · The void

Space, no suit

In 2007, water bears were strapped to the outside of a satellite and left in open space: no air, cosmic rays, raw sunlight. Many came back alive and laid eggs. Tardi still brings it up at parties.

Chapter 5 · 2023 → 2025

Three years of testnet

Then came the longest winter of all. "Mainnet when?" Faucets, quests, Discord roles, airdrop farmers who came and went. Tardi curled into a ball and slept through it. Sleeping is a skill. Tardi is very skilled.

Chapter 6 · Mainnet

The dump

Fast chain, slow price. The tourists ran, the volume dried up, the timeline turned red. Tardi did what it has done for 500 million years: it pulled in its legs, let the water go, and became a tun, a tiny purple ball with its metabolism at zero. Holding.

Chapter 7 · Now

Add water

Every buy is a drop. Every trade pays a fee, and the fee becomes water: MON, poured back to the bears that held. Enough drops and Tardi uncurls, stretches eight legs and walks again. It always does. That's the whole story: it doesn't die. It waits for the water.

The cast

Every good story needs a villain. This one has three.

Tardi

the water bear

Half a millimetre of pure refusal. Eight legs, claws on all of them, and the patience of something that has watched continents move.

💧

The Drops

the buyers

Every buy is one. Alone, a drop is nothing. Together they are the water that wakes the bear. Drops are always welcome.

🧻

The Paper Hands

villains

Light, crumpled, blown away by the first breeze. They sell the bottom and ask "is it over?" in the chat. It is never over.

🐻

The Other Bear

the bear market

Big, loud, red. Thinks it's the only bear in town. It has met a lot of animals. It has never met one that can't die.

The water bear code

  1. When it's red, tun. Curl up, don't sell. Panic is a waste of water.
  2. Every drop counts. Big buy, small buy: water is water.
  3. Drink your rations. Holders get MON from every trade. Claim it, hold the bear.
  4. Never trust a paper hand. They blow away in the first breeze.
  5. Survive first, flex later. The dinosaurs flexed. Look where that got them.
  6. gm is mandatory. We have said it after five extinctions. We'll say it after this one.

mass extinctions survived. Tardigrades have been around for over 500 million years.

Space

In 2007, tardigrades rode outside a satellite (FOTON-M3) in the vacuum of space. Many came back alive.

−272 °C

Close to absolute zero, and up to ~150 °C for a few minutes, in their dry "tun" state.

1000×

the radiation dose that would kill a human. They repair their own DNA.

30 years

frozen in Antarctic moss, then thawed in a lab in 2014: they woke up, and one laid eggs.

8 legs

and claws on every one. Hard to make it let go of anything.

The water bear games

Three games, one weekly pot in MON. Every run is replayed by the server: no cheating, just skill.
